MCS presents: B:SIDE - a night of soulful drum and bass AFEX is a liquid drum and bass producer based in Sheffield, UK with releases on Fokuz Recordings and Four Corners Music but is equally adept at bringing the darker sounds of underground music to his DJ sets. AFEX also makes up one half of the Music Me And My Friends Like crew, with a focus on uplifting local talent and sound system culture through a string of sold out events. DEVINE WRIGHT is a Sheffield based DJ and Instrumentalist. Inspired by the pioneers of Drum and Bass, Randall and Calibre, he has a plethora of music and knowledge to ride the set for any occasion. Lately, he has been enjoying playing at various parties in the Steel City such as Funky Drummer as well as hosting an online radio show on Kitchen Radio. You can look forward to soulful liquid and rolling basslines to start the night. Finkla and Overtone met in Sheffield through a shared love of soulful drum and bass. The duo take inspiration from early 2000s liquid funk including the likes of Calibre, Marcus Intalex, and DJ Marky. Both spin vinyl and are spreading their sound of the more soulful side of drum and bass throughout Sheffield. Over the past year, Leeds based DJ vanella has brought her dynamic sets to respected venues including Old Red Bus Station and Canned Heat, building a reputation for her versatile and soulful sound. Resident with female-led collective @sirensounds, Vanella is known for her deep love of underground DnB — blending everything from liquid to minimal, techy rollers. Inspired by the sounds of Marcus Intalex, Alix Perez, Lenzman, Mark System, Jubei and Anile to name a few, Vanella’s sets are rich in deep, soulful & emotive sounds Widdzy ~ A Drum and Bass DJ originally from Doncaster with a love for the craft both in performance and selection. “ I love the darker side of the genre. Atmosy soundscapes, Soulful rollers and Amen sub base serenades. Some of my big influences come from Mark System, Intalex, Break, Anile, dbridge, Mako and Spirit.
