Hypercell Records is back again in the Radio Room of Stage & Radio to bring you another event showcasing some of our favourite producers and DJs around.
This month joining Bokonon are Mercy System and Alan Johnson, producers of some of the finest bass music in the world.
Alan Johnson
Alan Johnson is the bastard child venture of Mancunian locals Gareth Kirby and Tom Neilan.
Having received acclaim from industry pioneers like Four Tet, Blawan, Noisia and Mumdance and releasing on the trailblazing label @yukuwax to be able to put these guys on is an absolute dream. The pair cast conventions of familiarity aside and promote atypical methods of sonic delivery taking inspiration from labels such as Hessle Audio, Skull Disco and Hemlock.
Mercy System
Industrial, intricate and tense, Mercy System’s music occupies a middle ground between various different bass-heavy music genres including techno, garage, dubstep and grime.
Growing up in a small town on the outskirts of Manchester and having an early start playing drums in various hardcore and metal bands before later finding electronic music; this intense rhythmic fascination makes its way into everything, as does his love of sci-fi, horror and industrial atmospheres. Mercy System has released on Voitax, Of Paradise, Different Intel, MELD, Miracle Drug and More Cowbell among others. His music has been featured on Rinse FM, BBC 6 Music, the Ilian Tape Podcast, The Lot Radio, Keep Hush and many other platforms.
