OSCAR
A dancer to his core, when local Bristol legend Oscar formed street Jazz Dance group THE FLOOR TECHNICIANS in 1988 he was already a 3 times national Disco dance champion. After making an explosive impression in clubs around the country, in 1991 the group became jazz dance champions and went on to feature on primetime TV and tour extensively around the world.
Oscar has a wealth of teaching experience, and with the recent resurgence of interest in Jazz dance, it felt only right to ask Oscar to share his deep, foundational knowledge of street jazz styles and techniques: DO NOT MISS!
STEFFI BRICKS
Steffi Bricks is a DJ, curator, and radio host known for her deep love of music and ability to blend Bruk, Jazz, UKG, UK Funky, and Soulful House into dynamic sets. As the host of MusoNation, she shares her passion for underground sounds, spotlighting both emerging and established artists.
A dedicated digger, she seamlessly fuses old and new, blending rhythms to move the crowd. With a residency at Blue Soup Club, her selections reflect a deep connection to jazz-dance culture and broken beats. Steffi is also a co-founder of Sol Service, a collective dedicated to delivering euphoric and soulful energy to the dancefloor. Having played across Nottingham’s scene, she’s excited to make her Bristol debut this April, bringing her signature sound to a new audience.
EVERTON YOUNG
Everton Young has been dancing jazz & fusion jazz for 30 years, and brings to the decks that wealth of deep musical knowledge alongside a dancers understanding of the tunes that work on the dancefloor. He has played at Swindon’s Jazz Quarterly and the legendary Out To Lunch in Notts among others: His focus is “real jazz for folks that feel jazz” and his set promises to be a proper education for all jazz lovers.

Broken Beat/Bruk producer, DJ, and co-founder of Bristol’s A Movement broken beat night. With a monthly residency on SWU/Rinse as part of the Universal Magnetic label, radio appearances also include Worldwide FM, the Co-op NYE takeover on 1BTN and a long-running show on Ujima. His tunes have been played by DJs including Gilles Peterson, Marc Mac, Jamz Supernova, IG Culture, Izco, Shy One, Jossy Mitsu, Alexander Nut, Om Unit among many others.
KATIE NOVO
Katie Novo is a DJ, music lover and long time collector of all things Brazilian, House, Jazz, Broken Beat, Garage, Disco, Funk and more. She has a weekly morning show on Bristol’s Noods Radio and a monthly residency on 1BTN.FM. She started Counting Blessings as a welcoming space for all comers to let go & dance!
