Welcome to bit.li, the first concept event of bitumen lichen.
Which sounds register as organic, and which as artificial? How do they inform one another and what does their synthesis evoke, awaken and heal within us? bit.li presents a carefully curated line-up of artists rooted in club music but who are curious explorers of sonic experiments and consider sound as a medium of visceral expression, memory and documentation as well as spirituality and using sound as a means of care.
The event will feature audiovisual sets, DJ sets, a discussion, food and drinks, welcoming all interested in sound and community.

We'll start with delicious food served by Aarti and a discussion with the performing artists about the importance of women and FLINTA* circles in terms of music communities and life in general. Like plants living within an ecosystem of a city, our connections provide us with mutual support and nourishment. We’ll talk about the magic of having a safe space where we can breathe and be ourselves, sharing our collected wisdom and experiences, inspiring one another and creating together, laughing, grieving and healing together and marvelling at the capacity of our bodies, minds and hearts under the pressures of patriarchy and modern society.
After that, the sensitive selector and music curator Suzana Benesova will cast a dreamy spell of drone and ambient music with focus on textures, atmospheres and otherworldly sounds as a sneak peek into the supernatural.
Sound artist Nina Pixel will present her latest project THE DREAMS OF SEA-SERPENTS: A dialogue between water and air instruments, an endless sea of loops oscillating between windy storms and the gentle breeze from the worlds down under. The performance invites to a sonic practice of deep listening which promotes the sense of well-being and relaxation and serves as an instrument of care.
FridaY, the founder of bitumen lichen, will present a soundtrack to ‘Flora’, the latest book by Jonáš Zbořil which in a lyrical prose format narrates a story of a creature born from nature and industrial waste in the wilderness of the toxic outskirts of a city. The novella touches up on topics of “new” nature and organic tech as well as parenthood, partnerships and the instinct to love and care, even at one’s own expense. The soundtrack is created with Chromaplane, a new experimental analog synthesizer by KOMA Elektronik, played by coils picking up tones emitted by its electromagnetic fields.
The event will be crowned with a set by Prieste5s, an electronic musician, DJ, live-coder, visual artist and Immaterial Earth Records founder. As a DJ, Prieste5s blends hypnotic breaks and techno beats and deep bass with organic percussions. In her music production, Prieste5s incorporates her interest in natural history and geological exploration through field recordings captured during her trips around the globe and creates contrast and tension between ambiance and spurts of broken beat and throbbing low frequencies. Her music is an expression of the transience of experience, and the ephemerality of the natural world.
