Neoprene Genie presents WISHED UP! at Rowans Tenpin Bowl. Yes, Rowans!
The iconic North London bowling alley / club that many of us have grown up on.
This party is a special one, as it's doubling up as Neoprene Genie's founder Tice Cin's 30th Birthday so the lineup is stacked with loved ones ready to have us dancing from 7pm.
Free entry before 9pm, after that point you need to cop the £5 entry ticket – and any other ticket tiers are donations to our running costs. Expect bangers, underground flips of childhood faves, and eclectic bowling coded songs on the legendary Rowans Void Sound System!
We have a bowling line aside for genie folks all night, but if you want a guaranteed bowl definitely book a lane separately via the Rowan's website. There are also Pool Tables by the DJ decks if that's more your vibe.
The night kicks off with a b2b from Tice and KEMANCI, a high energy boppy set that takes us through into a set by Jess Mavz right into NAMAK, Starry Niece, A.G, ONE BOK and KEMANCI.
We have M.I.C, Latekid and Kareem Parkins-Brown hosting and toasting in the later hours of the set.
Remember, after 9pm, the event is £5 then PAY WHAT YOU CAN, with admission to Rowans as part of that charge (£5)
Set times:
19.00-20.00 – Tice Cin b2b KEMANCI
20.00-21.00 – Jess Mavz
21.00-22.00 – NAMAK
22.00-23.00 – Starry Niece

00.00-01.00 – ONE BOK
01.00–02.30 – KEMANCI w/ Latekid, Kareem Parkins-Brown and M.I.C hosting and toasting.
You absolutely must either arrive with a pre-9pm ticket in order to get in to Rowans without paying £5 entry and then we're upstairs! Or you need to get our General Admission ticket and choose the accompanying donation tier! It's a sliding scale from £5 with a £1 donation, to more.
Jess Mavz – Jess Mavz is a multi-genre DJ from Enfield, known for her warm and exuberant sets. Starting out with nothing but a DJ controller and a dream, Jess Mavz spent her early days hosting clubs nights across London and collaborating with radio stations such as Westside, Reprezent, No Signal, Foundation Fm and Threads Radio which led her to finding her diverse style. Over the years Jess Mavz has played in various venues such as Boxpark Wembley and Southbank Centre. She has worked with a variety of brands such as Enfield Council, Nike, GymShark, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Sophie Tea Art.
Kareem Parkins-Brown – Kareem is a poet and produkky specialist and also a Neoprene Genie resident artist. Parkins-Brown is the lightkeeper of hood surrealism. Kareem is very chuffed to have designed a few things, including the visualscape for a show at Bush Theatre, along with collaborations with The Albany for Deptford Literature Festival and clients like Pinterest. His recent one man show Bougie Lanre's Boulangerie was inspired by his time in catering, it has been commissioned and toured regularly since its debut – with rave reviews. His recent pamphlet Oi You Lot is an audacious, richly plural celebration of friends and selves, present and otherwise. In Parkins-Brown’s hands, language bends like an illusionist’s spoon – a dazzling, fisheye-lens distortion of daily grief, absurdity and communion – while reminding us always that the trick is to carry on living. Caleb Femi speaking of Parkins-Brown shares, 'There is no writer like Kareem Parkins-Brown. How exciting to see new pathways through the forest of the British canon. Oi You Lot is the tender within the storm, written at the pulse of the moment.’
KEMANCI is a filmmaker, experimental artist and producer. He makes multi-genre club tracks that have inspirations of Jersey club, Grime, Turkish funk and more. He is one of the founding members of creative house fwrdnmtn*. His sets are full of energy, and usually accompanied by his friends singing along at full gorgeous volume. He drops music under a lot of aliases, so you've probably raved to his tunes more than you think ;)
Tice Cin – an interdisciplinary artist from North London. She experiments in the space of portals. Tice has acted and performed at venues such as Victoria and Albert Museum, The Roundhouse and Barbican’s Pit Theatre, and has been commissioned by organisations like Cartier, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Montblanc. She was named one of Complex Magazine’s best music journalists of 2021 and 2022, and has written for places such as DJ Mag and Mixmag. A DJ and music producer, she is preparing to release an accompanying album for Keeping the House with a host of talented features including those from the creative house she is part of, Fwrdmtn, such as Kareem Parkins-Brown and Latekid. Her DJ sets usually feel sexy, breathy and a bit strange, like you're biting into a bride and they taste like cherries.
M.I.C – North London rapper, producer & pioneer of grime's newest renaissance.
Described by NME as “experimental grime that’s both wonky and wonderful”, M.I.C (shorthand for the Master of Inane Conversation) is a North London based rapper/producer. Having been compared to artists such as FKA TWIGS, A$AP ROCKY and Skepta, as well as being given co-signs from several grime stalwarts (namely JME, Lethal Bizzle and Maxta), In January 2019, M.I.C was featured in the NME 100, NME’s annual rundown of “100 brand new artists set to dominate in the near future”.
Since then, he has gone on to play many shows all over the UK (Warehouse Project in Manchester, the monthly night by experimental electronic label Hyperdub "ø" & CRXSS PLATFXRM Festival in Peckham, to name a few), and has been covered by several notable publications, such as Trench, Complex and Dummy Mag. In October 2019, M.I.C's track "Afropunk Atlanta" was featured on the eighth episode of Blonded Radio (brainchild of one of the most elusive characters in popular music, Frank Ocean).
In July 2021, M.I.C came together with Norwood producer Nammy Wams to release "You Can Achieve Anything", progressive grime which takes as much influence from Nietzsche and anti-religious death metal bands like Immolation as it does from Carn Hill and President T.
Latekid: sound artist. creative. writer. fwrdmtn* founder. Latekid has been a sound designer for Louis Vuitton, V&A Museum and more. He is set to release an upcoming project, poised in the etherpoint between youth and knowing. He has had sold out headline shows at Jazz Cafe and more – known for his iconic pitchbending voice and lyrical flaire. Check out his song THE SINK, out now.
One Bok – It's an honour to have One Bok, a genuine source and inspiration behind so much of the sound you have grown to know at Neoprene Genie. South London producer and Nightslugs co-founder Bok Bok launched their new label ‘AP Life’ and an LP under the alias, One Bok. You may have heard ‘Zodiac Beats 1&2’, a beat tape in its purest sense, which harks back to the early days of UK Grime, circa 2004, bringing it up to speed with nods to UK Drill. One Bok in their music often explores themes of solitude, pain, frustration and catharsis, imagining “a soundtrack to reluctant plateaus, destroyed urban landscapes, grimey moshpits – with the inaccessible wealth of the Other London always looming just out of shot.”
