ASTROJAZZ (Samedia Shebeen / Disko Makossa) & DEE BOOGS (Reading Rooms) SATURDAY 17th MAY Dee Boogs and The Small Town Club welcome back Edinburgh-based curator, promoter and selector of diverse club sounds from jazz to electronic via funk, afrobeat, disco & house, broken beats, dub and beyond. Astrojazz has been at the forefront of the Scottish music scene for well over 20 years , his musical knowledge, skills behind the decks and colourful dance floor selections are gonna get the TSTC crowd moving and grooving all night long! Ultimately Astrojazz is all about supporting good music. When not working out of the office programming and promoting a diverse range of events, Chris spreads the Astrojazz gospel through his DJ residencies and guest spots. Since blowing a student loan in 1997 to bag a pair of Technics 1210s, he has been spinning a huge range of music ever since. From jazz, afrobeat and tropicalismo, through funk, soul, hip-hop and dub to the myriad cutting-edges of modern electronica and dance, the sound of Chris Astrojazz is diverse yet tight, and designed to move dancefloors of all kinds to a unique blend of music from across continents and ages. Chris Astrojazz has played hundreds of shows over the years, from sweaty basements clubs to large festival stages, notable gigs including Gugulethu Township in Cape Town, boat parties in the Adriatic, jazz clubs in Finland, Arcadia Afterburner at Glastonbury, Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda and all over the UK at some point. He has been resident DJ at a number of iconic Edinburgh clubights including Samedia Shebeen, Departure Lounge and Four Corners. He has hosted and supported a huge range of top class artists, like Gilles Peterson, Mr Scruff, Candi Staton, Guru & Jazzmatazz, Bonobo, Tony Allen, Roy Ayers, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Antibalas…the list goes on and on!
