Burmese diaspora and Burmese heritage DJs join forces to present a fundraiser in Deptford for earthquake relief in Myanmar on May 16th 2025.
On the 28th March, an earthquake hit Myanmar, close to its second largest city Mandalay. It was the second deadliest earthquake in the country’s modern history, with over 6 million people affected, over 5 thousand fatalities, and many many beautiful historic buildings reduced to rubble. In a country already severely affected by civil war and political strife, this is devastating.
Ambient Babestation Meltdown (Rye Wax), Izzi (Daytimers) and KOSO/DJ Batcum (Red Room Yangon) are teaming up, alongside special guest ESEA DJs the butcher bird and Siiio at Aaja in South East London to raise money to help the people of Myanmar.
With Burmese food and snacks served by renowned Burmese chef Robert Khaing who recently held a pop-up residency at nearby Jazu, and Burmese products on sale from Rice Over Everything and Seint Jewellery, this evening fundraiser will run from 6-pm-midnight and is open to all.
“Myanmar is still home to me” says KOSO, “and having lived there recently, I’ve seen how hard life already is due to the political turmoil. This earthquake was the last thing people needed and it's heartbreaking to see so many lives lost, lives that could have been saved with better infrastructure and support.”
Advance tickets are priced at £7-10, with a small number of £5 tickets for those who are unwaged, and/or qpoc. Tickets OTD will be minimum £10 donation.
All funds raised will be going to Better Burma, a charity that has already delivered critical aid to Mandalay, Sagaing, and Inle, including food and water, baby formula and nappies, medicine, electrolytes and hygiene kits, solar panels, generators, charging stations and concrete-punching machines to help rescue those still trapped.
