The People’s Grooves w/ Tashkezar (Live) + DJ Zafeer
The People’s Grooves is back - bringing a dancefloor celebration of global sounds, soulful rhythms, and bass-heavy joy. Headlining the night is the electrifying Tashkezar - a boundary-blurring 7-piece fusing Middle Eastern melodies, Balkan brass, Afro-Latin percussion, and electronic textures into a wild, high-energy live set. Expect a sonic journey of pure movement. Joining them on the decks is DJ Zafeer, selector supreme of diasporic grooves - from Arab techno to Afro house, South Asian edits to UK underground sounds.
Tashkezar - live
Tashkezar are a seven-piece Egyptian Psych Funk group, blending psych guitar with funk bass, punchy horns, anthemic synth and euphoric Arabic vocals. Originally from Egypt, Uzbekistan, the UK and US, now based between London, Bristol and Brighton, Tashkezar meld a Cosmic Fusion of vintage Egyptian Pop with Balkan Funk and Anatolian Rock. Hailing from different backgrounds but united in their shared obsession with the groove, Tashkezar meld a Cosmic Fusion of vintage Egyptian Pop, Anatolian Rock, Balkan, Funk, Electro-Pop, Afrobeat, Reggae – whatever makes them move. Like the ancient ritual of ‘Zar’ in their name, Tashkezar's electrifying shows whip audiences into a frenzy, fast gaining them a cult following across the UK. Once a mainstay of the Cairo underground music scene, frontwoman Mariam’s lyrics use wordplay and wry humour to process the personal and political upheavals that led to her leaving Egypt, enjoining us to turn our disillusionment into hope.
