Ali ist ein dreiköpfiges Musikprojekt aus Jakarta, Indonesien. Gegründet von John Paul Patton und Arswandaru Cahyo, vereint Ali Einflüsse aus dem Nahen Osten mit Elementen des indonesischen Rocks der 70er Jahre, cineastischem Soul, Afrobeat, Funk und Disco, um frische Grooves und Sounds in die zeitgenössische Musikszene Indonesiens zu bringen. Alle Songtexte sind auf Arabisch verfasst, und die Band schöpft stark aus der Kunst und Musik des Nahen Ostens, die seit Jahrhunderten tief in der indonesischen Kultur verwurzelt ist. Das Trio setzt sich aus John Paul (Schlagzeug), Arswandaru (Bass/Gesang) und Absar Lebeh (Gitarre) zusammen. Mit ihrem selbst beschriebenen Stil „Middle Eastern Beats with Southeast Asian Twists“ bringen Ali ihre einzigartige Fusion auf Bühnen in Indonesien und weltweit – und versprechen bei jeder ihrer Shows ein mitreißendes Erlebnis. Initiated by John Paul Patton and Arswandaru Cahyo, the desire of Ali is to incorporate Middle Eastern culture with elements 70’s Indonesian rock, cinematic soul, afro beat, funk and disco to create a new groove and sound to the contemporary and vibrant Indonesian music scene. With all lyrics written in Arabic, Ali builds on the influence of Middle Eastern art and music, which over centuries has assimilated itself deep into Indonesian culture and way of life. John Paul (Drums) and Arswandaru (Bass/Vocals) are joined by Absar Lebeh on guitar to complete the trio. They are bringing their self described ‘Middle Eastern Beats with South East Twists’ to Indonesia and the world.
