SISU
---------------------------------------------------
For this instalment of The Bakery Invites series we host the Sisu collective, ran by our resident DJ, Malissa.
Sisu is a community providing a platform to educate, inspire and showcase aspiring women and non-binary DJs, producers and behind the scenes event staff. Their vision is to create educational and inspirational spaces to enhance national and international opportunities, connections and pathways into the music industry.
Sisu are proud to invite two stellar DJs from the south of the country (Bristol and London) to come and play up north here in Liverpool, further championing the bridge between the north and south divide.

Ellie Stokes
With individuality and experimentation at her core, Ellie Stokes is very
much her own DJ. Having immersed herself in Bristol’s music scene since
arriving in the late 00s, she could reasonably be considered a product of the
city’s unique creative culture.
Stokes’ musical endeavours reach beyond her DJing too–she also helps steer the city’s much-loved queer dance party Bitch, Please! and came onboard as a partner in Futureboogie, which will soon branch out into a new label project in the near future. Her keen ear for the unusual and distinctive shine through in these ventures as much as when she’s on the decks, rounding out her positive contributions to all corners of the music scene in Bristol and beyond. She may be representative of the city as it stands right now, but Ellie Stokes is just as much her own vital energy in at angled network of scenes, communities, parties and platforms that stretches out internationally.

Ysanne
A regular at Brighton raves from a young age, Ysanne’s education in dance music began earlier than most. Surrounded by household names in electronic music during her upbringing, she developed a deep-rooted knowledge of 90s house and techno, paired with an enduring love for club culture.
Pulling together her early influences, her discerning taste for contemporary releases, and her ability to guide the dancefloor through journeys of proto-house, percussive rollers, 90s tech, and early 2000s prog, the now London-based DJ and producer Ysanne is a rising talent to watch.

Malissa
Founder of SISU and ever-evolving digger, Malissa has always been enamoured with dance music culture and history, and has always sought to make it more accessible to anyone who shares that love in any way she can. Malissa’s sound spans both new and old, with a preference towards more modern productions. Her sets are energetic, taking inspiration from her own lively personality.
Starting her journey whilst living in London starting up Sisu and moving to Edinburgh, where she became a long-standing resident for the collective EPiKA, for whom she continues to play to this day. Since moving back to her place of birth, Liverpool, Malissa has seen a slow but steady surge of bookings across England and Europe over the past few years. Sharing the booth with the likes of The Ghost, Or:la, and Freakenstein, and further from home playing coveted festivals such as Boomtown and Hideout, it almost feels as if she is standing at the edge of a very exciting boom.
