Spindrift invites you to bask in our garden of earthly delights as we invite some very special guests to greet the springtime. The air is saturated with dew, the flowers are in full bloom, the soil is humming with life, sunlight drenches everything in a glow at once familiar and otherworldly. Our performers from near and far join us to present verdant, lush, intoxicating and alien soundscapes to enliven our glorious return to the Pottery Gym.
This Spindrift will be a family affair, as Montreal’s ambient power couple Ura and Kore join us, each making their Philadelphia live debut. Over the past years, Ura has released a string of modern downtempo classics on labels such as Motion Ward, Naff, and Collect-Call. His recordings trace a signature sound that’s aqueous and dub-soaked, lush in texture and detail, gentle and transfixing. Kore’s enchanting ambient productions seem to bubble up luminously from beneath a watery surface, allowing the mind to wander across slowly unfolding sonic landscapes. Her mixes for series such as Theory Therapy, Motion Ward, and Fake Rolex showcase a broad range of inspirations, from dreamy ambient to stripped-down folk to leftfield club.
We also welcome Swedish-born, London-based experimental producer and composer Aircode for her Philly debut. Her sparsely unsettling productions draw inspiration from varied realms of bass and avant-garde music to create precisely sound-designed, hypnotic and disorienting journeys.
Finally we’ll be joined by Yaka, Inner Most label cofounder, recent Philadelphian, and friend of Spindrift. Their amphibious downtempo and ambient productions are simultaneously playful and heartfelt, incorporating sounds of flora and fauna from the swamp to the jungle.
Yosuke will once again be providing visuals to immerse us in the sense and spirit of the drift. The show begins at 9pm, tickets $15-20, fun to be had by all. Capacity is limited, so we do recommend purchasing tickets in advance. As always, no one will be turned away for lack of funds, and Spindrift is 21+.
