𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲: 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟰
Saturday, April 26, marks the return of 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 and its fourth iteration, featuring a curated lineup of Manila-based contemporary techno artists, alongside a special regional guest.
In this edition of 𝗛𝗠𝗔, the team draws inspiration from Ryuichi Sakamoto’s »Seeing Sound, Hearing Time¹,« using it as a springboard for reflection on loop-based music and its capacity to transcend the perception of time—through its minimal and repetitive structures. Much like Sakamoto’s retrospective, which contemplates the notion of »the eternal« and »music freed from the constraints of time,« this event seeks to explore how the club format can evoke experiences of transience, liminality, and an altered consciousness.
To bring this concept to life, I am honored to host the Chinese Berlin-based artist, Temple Rat ⁽ᵈᵉ⁾, for her Manila debut. One of 𝗛𝗠𝗔’s key focuses this year is examining the intersections between Asian identity and contemporary electronic music. As such, I am thrilled to highlight an artist like 「Mei」within the context of this imprint.
In support of Temple Rat’s performance, I am equally excited to welcome Vader, also known as Mulan—an artist who has long influenced my own musical approach. To round out the cross-generational nature of this program, my back-to-back collaboration with detalye returns for the first time this year.
I hope to see you on 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗱𝗼•❹•❷❻, in Apotheka’s Main Room from 21:00 → 04:00 .

Temple Rat is the alias of「Yuxin Mei,」an Erhu player, composer, and DJ from China, currently based in Berlin. Her work seamlessly blends ancient and traditional folk music with contemporary electronic production. As a proficient performer of the Erhu, a traditional Chinese bowed string instrument, 「Mei」 crafts her unique sound identity using self-built sound design tools and field recordings.
Temple Rat’s music inhabits the intersection of IDM and Eastern-inspired ambient, extending to deep driving. Her performances center around extensive field recordings and emotional storytelling, taking the form of live acts and DJ sets.
「Mei」cultivates her understanding of the surrounding environment through her practices, installations, and performances. She employs complex methodologies such as radio art, field recordings, and spatial sound design to create her works. In Shanghai, she hosts a monthly podcast »Ni Chi Le Mei« on Baihui Radio China, dedicated to sharing and promoting deep listening to music from artists around the world. In Berlin, 「Mei」 focuses on sound design and interactive installations and hosts events under the collective »Er Ting Ba Fang 耳聽八方,« promoting cross-cultural interaction and musical cooperation.

Duality 「aka Sean Bautista」has a unique take on music that showcases the duplexity of his musical references. His sound is distinctly deep, percussive, and bass-forward, conveying an aversion to rigidity by mixing the old with the new, as well as analogue with digital. These qualities make his sets refined yet complex. Whether he’s transporting the room into mental dimensions or warming up the floor with atmospheric textures, he’s sure to deliver layers of meticulously arranged sonic frequencies.
