La Rumba Buena is a monthly-event dedicated to vintage Latin sounds on vinyl. Inspired by the salsatecas in Cali (Colombia), Havana, and New York, Rumba is a no frills, pure vibes, non-stop dance floor jam. Expect to hear old-school salsa, boogaloo, & cumbia and to be transported out of Toronto for a night (in the best way).
Our VERY special guest this month needs almost no introduction. We’re beyond excited to present, for her Canadian debut, all the way from Hong Kong, the one, the only: Gia Fu. A DJ/selector and music producer, specializing in Afro-Latin music, particularly Salsa and associated rhythms, she gained worldwide renown through her Mild Mambo Club mixes. She’s continued to set dancefloors on fire through touring extensively as an international DJ, she’s produced a big band album with Angel Meléndez (Gia Fu presents Angel Meléndez X Big Band Máquina), and she leads the Canton Mambo 曼波 project, dedicating herself to bridging cultural divides, embracing diversity through research, cultural & dance events, and music.
We’re not exaggerating when we say this will be a legendary night. Advance tickets are on sale now and they will go QUICKLY. Also, please note that this very special edition of Rumba will be taking place at the beautiful Standard Time (165 Geary Ave).
Over Rumba's 9-plus years we've welcomed international guests such as Quantic, Bobbito, DJ Spinna, Rich Medina, DJ Bongohead, La Colocha, DJ Amir (Kon and Amir), Rum & Coke Miami, Mickey Perez, and Jason Joshua, to name a few. It’s our honour to now host Gia too.
Alongside our home base in Toronto, La Rumba Buena has blessed the decks at storied venues and parties such as Dante's HiFi Miami, La Fábrica de Arte Cubano in Havana, Cuba, Noche Negra in Mexico City, Mad Records HiFi in Medellín, and Macanudo HiFi in Cali, among others.
