Excursions: Detroit 2025

It's that time of the year and we are blessed to be back in Detroit! AS you know this event is for the dancers as we explore different dance rhythms through music.. We have a dope line up with some of the dopest producers in the game! Young and old come together for One of the realest nights during the holiday weekend. Here's a lil something about the musical selectors for the night! ANTHONY NICHOLSON A bonified Chicago house fixture and then some — Anthony Nicholson aka Miquifaye is equal parts dance-music veteran and innovator, rooted in the movement of elevating organic sounds through electronic music. An experienced founder/head of multiple labels (Clairaudience, Circular Motion, Blak Muzik), unique DJ talent, seasoned selector-programmer, & lifelong producer – Anthony has spent the better part of the last 30 years dedicating himself to creating one of the most sought-after catalogues in dance, spanning the finest elements of deep house, techno, jazz, funk, and disco. His discography is a labyrinth of deep pleasures, body rituals, and sonic exploration that has led him to countless landmark collaborations (Osunlade, Glenn Underground, Joe Claussell, Francois K, Boo Williams, Ron Trent, Roy Ayers, Paulinho Dacosta, Bobby Lyle, William Kurk, Chris Rob, & more), releases on the most esteemed labels of dance music (Jazz Diaries,Yoruba Recordings, NDATL Muzik, Schema, King Street, Guidance, Compost, Peace Frog, Strictly Jaz Unit , Visions, Neroli, Prescription, Sacred Rhythm, Sonar Kollektiv, Laws of Motion, Ubiquity and many others) and fervent support from the best of the house underground. Anthony's unique brand of fearless experimental musicality and genre-less freedom is a rarity: "Never compromise on presenting High Art to the audience; understanding an Artist must express without fear is essential." COFLO Coflo brings a true dancer's touch to house music. As a life long student of the American style of house dance and the Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira; Coflo looks to infuse his dance and movement experience into his musical productions. A true house head; he hopes to honor the beautiful culture and community that raised him in his home of the Bay Area in California USA. 

 In 2014 he founded Catch The Ghost Records as a creative outlet for his music which has blessed him with the opportunity to release a number of original and remix productions. In 2015 he released the single "Dance Floor Warriors"; which caught the ears of one of the worlds biggest and most influential "Afro House" labels of the times, MoBlack Records. Shortly there after Coflo's music could be heard making its way through quality soulful, afro and deep imprints like Sure Player, Merecumbe and Ocha Records. With many great projects under his belt it wasn't until 2017 when Coflo unleashed what might be the worlds first full length Capoeira and House music cross over album (LP) -"O Berimbau". Released on Boddhi Satva's Offering Recordings, O Berimbau has quickly spread through the international Capoeira community as well as choice tracks can be heard playing in underground house clubs. The album's story is narrated by the world famous Capoeira Grand Master; Mestre Acordeon. With the blessing and artistic collaboration from Mestre Recruta and Mestre Acordeon; O Berimbau is truly a staple of the dance floor culture and history in Coflo's home of the Bay Area. Flash forward to 2019. Coflo has added a number of remix credits to his name, including remixes for heavy hitting producer/djs like: Seven Davis Jr, Sunlight Square, Hallex M, Doug Gomez, Hanna Hais, and DJ Said. To add to his recent accolades he also has numerous top 10 placements on the world renown traxsource.com charts; including his international hit single "Stress Relief" featuring a dance floor mayhem remix by the maestro himself - Osunlade. Coflo is also working double duties as A&R and label manager for the the world famous eclectic house music imprint, Ocha Records. Needless to say there is plenty more in the works for Coflo. Look for his name monthly throughout 2019 for new original and remix productions. LORENZO DEWBERRY John Collins first heard the mixing of Lorenzo Dewberry when he saw him opening for the legendary Mike Huckaby. They connected over their shared passion for house music — on this special episode of the Soul of Detroit you'll get an insight into Dewberry's musical inspirations and experience his selections for yourself. EXCURSIONS: CORDELL JOHNSON & JAMES VINCENT EXCURSIONS can best be described as a monthly exploration into the diverse sounds of deep house music in Chicago. Heavily infused with the rhythms of the Afro-Latino diaspora, this musical journey encompasses a variety of influences. Afro & Broken Beats, Latin & Tech House, Nu-Soul & Jazz-Funk, resident dj's Cordell Johnson and James Vincent bring it all together for a diverse audience of dancers & music lovers who seek adventure on a dance floor.
